Differential Tissue Expression of the Lewis Blood Group Antigens : Enzymatic , Immunohistologic , and Immunochemical
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Lewis blood group system comprises two main carbohydrate antigens, Le’ and Leb. Lewis typing has traditionally been based on serologic determinations using erythrocytes and saliva. Several recent studies have demonstrated that erythrocyte Lewis phenotype may change during pregnancy or disease, and inappropriate Lewis antigens have been found in both normal and neoplastic tissue. To evaluate whether these observations are in conflict with the presently proposed genetic and biosynthetic basis of the Lewis blood group system, we performed a combined enzymatic, immunohistologic, and immunochemical study of Lewis antigen expression in normal and neoplastic tissues, as well as erythrocytes, plasma, and saliva of Le(ab-)-typed individu-

متن کاملDetermination of fucosyltransferase 3 gene polymorphisms frequency in Iranian blood donors
Abstract Background and Objectives The FUT3 gene regulates the expression of Lewis blood group antigens mainly Lea and Leb. The Lewis negative phenotype, is the result of an inactivated FUT3 enzyme that lacks glycosidase activity. Several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) may cause enzyme inactivation with different racial distribution. This study aimed to determine the frequency of these...
متن کاملEnzymes of Clostridium tertium: effects on blood group and virus receptor substances.
The enzymatic degradation of purified blood group substances represents an increasingly fruitful approach to the elucidation of their immunochemical specificity, and progress to date has recently been reviewed (Kabat, 1956). A number of enzymes from different microorganisms have been described which split one or more of the blood group substances with resultant changes in serological specificit...
